Virginia Resources
Pharmacists in Virginia may prescribe hormonal contraceptives (pill, patch, ring, and shot) via statewide protocol. Additionally, pharmacists may prescribe emergency contraception (levonorgestrel and ulipristal acetate) via a separate statewide protocol.
Training
Emergency Contraception
Pharmacists are required to complete at least one hour of continuing education specific to the prescribing of emergency contraception under the emergency contraception standing order. This home study course offers 1 hour of ACPE-accredited continuing pharmacy education credit and is intended for pharmacists who plan to furnish contraceptives directly to patients.
