In Arkansas, licensed pharmacists may initiate oral contraceptive therapy (pill and levonorgestrel emergency contraception) to patients 18 or older in accordance with Act 408 and the provisions in Arkansas Code § 17-92-115. The statewide protocol was approved by both the Arkansas Board of Pharmacy and the Arkansas Medical Board in 2022.

Oral Contraceptive Prescribing: Statewide Protocol Training
Arkansas pharmacists planning to provide consultations and prescriptions for oral contraceptives are required to take this 1 hour online ACPE accredited continuing education program. See the Arkansas Pharmacists Association website for course details. Register for the training here.
General Pharmacist Contraception Services Training Program
If you would like more training on contraception methods, you can take our General Pharmacist Contraception Services Training Program. This program includes background, review of methods, contraception service procedures, patient education, service implementation, resources for both pharmacists and patients, and opportunities for advocacy and providing services.
