In January of 2025, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed HB 5436 into law which gives pharmacists the authority to issue prescriptions for self-administered hormonal contraceptives including the pill, patch, ring, shot, and levonorgestrel emergency contraceptives.
Training
Michigan Pharmacist Contraception Training Services
This home study training program, developed in partnership with the Michigan Pharmacists Association, is accepted by the Michigan Board of Pharmacy as required training for pharmacists to prescribe self-administered hormonal contraceptives including the pill, patch, ring, shot, and emergency contraceptives.
