Rhode Island Resources
In 2023, Rhode Island passed 2023-S 0103Aaa which allows pharmacists to prescribe and dispense hormonal contraceptives. In 2025, HB 6038 was passed that removed a 3 month limit on pharmacist-prescribed contraceptive prescriptions.
Regulations are still in progress.
Training
A training program has not yet been approved by the Board of Pharmacy.
If you would like more training on contraception methods, you can take our General Pharmacist Contraception Services Training Program. This program includes background, review of methods, contraception service procedures, patient education, service implementation, resources for both pharmacists and patients, and opportunities for advocacy and providing services.
