In 2022, North Carolina passed legislation allowing pharmacists authority in providing hormonal contraception. Under SL 2021-110, immunizing pharmacists in North Carolina now have the authority to dispense, deliver, or administer oral and transdermal self-administered combined hormonal and progestin-only contraceptives.
Training
North Carolina Hormonal Contraceptive Training Program
Immunizing pharmacists who wish to exercise the authority to provide oral or transdermal hormonal contraceptive therapy are required by the protocol to complete the North Carolina Hormonal Contraceptive Training Program provided by the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists.

If you would like more training on contraception methods, you can take our General Pharmacist Contraception Services Training Program. This program includes background, review of methods, contraception service procedures, patient education, service implementation, resources for both pharmacists and patients, and opportunities for advocacy and providing services.
