New Hampshire House Bill 1735 was enacted on July 10, 2026 and modernizes the practice of pharmacy by adopting standard of care and amending the definition of pharmacy practice to include the prescribing of drugs, which includes contraception. This goes into effect on September 8, 2026.
Previously, House Bill 1822 was signed into law in 2018 and makes hormonal contraceptives available directly from pharmacists by means of a standing order. A model statewide protocol had not been signed by a physician or advanced practice registered nurse, so implementation is still in progress. This home study training program is intended for pharmacists in New Hampshire to dispense hormonal contraceptives including the pill, patch, and ring via standing order. This program includes background, review of methods, protocol procedures, patient education, service implementation, resources for both pharmacists and patients, and payment for pharmacist services.
