Michigan Resources
In January of 2025, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed HB 5436 into law which gives pharmacists the authority to issue prescriptions for hormonal contraceptive patches, self-administered hormonal contraceptives, emergency contraceptives, and vaginal ring hormonal contraceptives. Rules and regulations regarding this prescriptive authority are in progress.
Training
Rules and regulations regarding training requirements are in progress. If you would like more training on contraception methods, you can take our General Pharmacist Contraception Services Training Program. This program includes background, review of methods, contraception service procedures, patient education, service implementation, resources for both pharmacists and patients, and opportunities for advocacy and providing services.
