OTC Contraceptives

The goal of this educational program is to prepare pharmacists to provide evidence-based counseling on over-the-counter contraceptive methods and increase patient access to these methods.

  • Describe the mechanism of action, efficacy rates, adverse effects, and counseling for OTC contraceptive products.
  • Summarize evidence supporting prescription to non-prescription status of the daily progestin-only pill.
  • Identify state policy and procedures for patient access to OTC contraceptive products.
