In 2018, the Defending Access to Women’s Health Care Services Amendment Act was passed allowing pharmacists to prescribe and dispense certain contraceptives pursuant to an established protocol.
The Board of Pharmacy and Board of Medicine are to develop a joint protocol which is still in progress.
Training
A training program has not yet been approved by the Board of Pharmacy.
If you would like more training on contraception methods, you can take our General Pharmacist Contraception Services Training Program. This program includes background, review of methods, contraception service procedures, patient education, service implementation, resources for both pharmacists and patients, and opportunities for advocacy and providing services.
State Champion
