New Jersey Resources
Pharmacists in New Jersey may furnish self-administered hormonal contraceptives (pill, patch, ring, and shot) via statewide standing order to patients of all ages.
Below you will find links to board of pharmacy materials, training requirements, and billing guidance to prepare you to offer contraceptive services in your pharmacy.
Training
Pharmacists in New Jersey must complete a training program that is at least four credits and trains the pharmacist to screen patients to determine eligibility for the self-administered hormonal contraceptives authorized at N.J.A.C. 13:39-14.3; select a self-administered hormonal contraceptive; and counsel patients.
In order to furnish self-administered hormonal contraceptives, a pharmacist must upload both the Self-administered Hormonal Contraceptives Affirmation and proof of completion of the required training (either a certificate of course completion issued by the training provider, or a transcript from their NABP CPE Monitor) to their pharmacist MyLicense account.
If you would like additional training on contraception methods, you can take our General Pharmacist Contraception Services Training Program. This program is 2 credit hours and includes background, review of methods, contraception service procedures, patient education, service implementation, resources for both pharmacists and patients, and opportunities for advocacy and providing services.
