Montana Resources

Pharmacists in Montana may prescribe “a drug or device for a legitimate medical purpose that do not require a new diagnosis or are minor and generally self-limiting.” This includes contraceptive medications and devices (pill, patch, ring, shot, emergency contraception, and nonhormonal methods).

Training

General Pharmacist Contraception Services Training Program

Pharmacists in Montana may “prescribe only the drugs or devices for which the pharmacist is educationally prepared and for which competency has been achieved and maintained.” Our General Pharmacist Contraception Services Training Program is ACPE-accredited and fulfills this requirement. This program includes background, review of methods, contraception service procedures, patient education, service implementation, resources for both pharmacists and patients, and opportunities for advocacy and providing services.

State Champion

We're building a state-based network of pharmacist leaders to expand access to contraception and build momentum for pharmacy-based reproductive health services. Your State Champion serves as a local resource and advocate within the Birth Control Pharmacist Community.
