Sally Rafie, PharmD, BCPS, APh, FCCP, FCPhA

Founder

Dr. Rafie graduated from the University of California San Francisco School of Pharmacy and is a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist, with Registered Pharmacist and Advanced Practice Pharmacist licenses in California. She has provided clinical care at the UC San Diego Health Women’s Health Services Clinic, Planned Parenthood clinics, and community pharmacies. Dr. Rafie founded The Pharmacists Clinic, the first pharmacist-run clinic in a community pharmacy, where she provides contraception and other clinical services. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Health Sciences at the University of California San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences where she teaches and trains pharmacy students on contraception, precepts student experiential rotations, and mentors student research projects.

Dr. Rafie has been championing implementation of pharmacist-provided contraception care for nearly 20 years via policy advocacy, research, dissemination, and various implementation strategies. Over 10 years ago, she helped develop the California statewide protocol for pharmacists to prescribe (or furnish) contraceptives adopted by the Board of Pharmacy, and has provided technical assistance to many states since. Dr. Rafie was invited to participate as an expert reviewer on contraceptive use guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Rafie was named a Changemaker in Family Planning by the Society of Family Planning in 2019 and is a graduate of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Interdisciplinary Research Leaders program. She is Past-Chair of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Women’s Health Practice and Research Network, Past-President of the San Diego County Pharmacists Association, Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and Fellow of the California Pharmacists Association.
