This course has been developed to review the latest advancements in pharmacist-initiated contraceptive services, over-the-counter contraceptive access, and how nurses can collaborate effectively with pharmacists to enhance patient care. This is a recording of the live webinar from May 7, 2024.

About the Speakers

Dr. Sally Rafie is a Pharmacist Specialist and Assistant Clinical Professor at UC San Diego.  She has provided contraceptives services in an academic ambulatory care clinic, UC San Diego Women’s Health Clinic, and an independent community pharmacy.  Sally founded Birth Control Pharmacist to educate pharmacists and other health care professionals about family planning topics, including emergency contraception, youth-friendly pharmacy services, hormonal contraception, and medication abortion.  She does research and advocacy related to women’s health, particularly the pharmacists role and access in pharmacies.  She is Past-President of the San Diego County Pharmacists Association, Past Chair of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Women’s Health Practice and Research Network, and member of the Preconception Health Council of California.  Dr. Rafie holds a PharmD from UC San Francisco and completed her residency training at UC San Diego Health. She is a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and licensed Advanced Practice Pharmacist.

Ms. Sergison is a healthcare policy consultant and coalition builder with 17 years of experience as a clinician in a variety of settings, including in public health and a rigorous academic institution. Four years successfully conducting safety management of clinical trials at FHI 360 and published in leading medical journals. Healthcare policy expert who utilizes relationships with prominent healthcare stakeholders and lawmakers in the NC General Assembly to achieve public health goals.
