About the HAPPI Project

Since 2013, a growing number of states have passed laws allowing pharmacists to prescribe contraceptives, thereby allowing patients more direct access to birth control. However, pharmacists still face many barriers to being able to successfully implement this new service in their pharmacies.

In 2022, Birth Control Pharmacist was awarded a Phase I CDC Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grant to explore ways to improve implementation of pharmacist-prescribed birth control services. These insights led to the development of a Hormonal contraceptive Access via Pharmacist-Prescribing Implementation (HAPPI) package that will support effective and sustainable provision of pharmacist-prescribed contraception services.  The goal of this project is to support pharmacies and pharmacists in providing direct access to birth control to their communities across the United States.
